Foam Technician II/III – New Haven – June 25 & 26th
Registration is now open for the Foam Tech II/III course scheduled for June 25 & 26, 2019 and will be held at the New Haven Regional Fire School. There is no tuition charge for this class. The program will run 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Day 1 and 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Day 2.
The course objectives will be the management of fires, spills and system operations at fuel terminal, tank farms, rail, marine and trans-load terminals.
a. A tour of a target fuel terminal, keying on facility firefighting systems and risks associated with process and storage mishaps.
b. Problem solving exercises dealing with logistic support for systems challenged loading racks, pipe alleys, marine piers, storage tank fires and un-ignited spills.
c. Develop firefighting strategies for Type III foam applications and critical cooling streams with consideration for reach and range complications caused by terrain, proximity to population, prevailing weather and or the initial fire circumstance.
d. Calculating foam and water stream needs for spill or in-depth (storage tank) fires. e. Discuss environmental consequences associated with mass water and foam applications at long life fire or spill security events.
IMPORTANT NOTE: On the afternoon of Day 2 a tour will be conducted of a Fuel Terminal located at the New Haven Harbor, for entry into the Terminal you will be required to have Hi-Visibility Vests, Fire Resistive Long Sleeve Shirts and Long Pants, Hard Hat, Eye Protection and Steel Toe Safety Shoes.
The Instructor will be Jim Cottrell, of Cottrell Associates, Inc. who has been a National Foam factory agent and product development consultant since 1988. His Combat Support Products division manufactures specialty foam firefighting equipment, conducts high hazard risk assessments and special operations training for industrial, marine and municipal fire markets. Jim chairs the IFSTA Foam Validation Committee and is a member of the Underwriters Laboratories, Foam Standards Technical Panel. He has written extensively on the subject of firefighting foam chemicals, large caliber fire streams, water supply management and foam applications for municipal and industrial firefighting.
